Jaswant hails court order

Expelled Bharatiya Janata Party leader Jaswant Singh has welcomed the Gujarat High Court order striking down the August 19 notification of the State government banning the publication, sale and distribution of his book on Mohammad Ali Jinnah.

It was a matter of satisfaction that the court had upheld the freedom of speech, Mr. Singh told PTI here.

He expressed dismay that the court had to be approached to uphold the constitutional rights to speech, write and express. “We all should think about it seriously.”

While setting aside the Modi government’s order on August 19 to ban the book, the Gujarat High Court observed that the notification fell short of the requirements of the provisions of the law under which it was issued.
