Hindi film music director Bappi Lahiri joined the BJP on Friday.
Mr. Lahiri, known for his flamboyant dressing and penchant for gold jewellery, said there was a wave in the country in favour of the BJP and its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.
The music director, who had campaigned for the Congress in 2004, said that 10 years ago, there was a Congress wave. But now “the wave is here,” he told mediapersons at the BJP headquarters in the capital.
Party president Rajnath Singh said Mr. Lahiri’s services might be used in his home State, West Bengal.
Others who joined the party are Tuhin Sinha, writer of television soap Yeh Rista Kya Kehlata Hai and co-author of the former BJP president Nitin Gadkari's book ‘India Aspires’; actor Prashant Narayan; TV actress and former president of the Jodhpur University Students Union Ashima Sharma; writer of the children series ‘My Friend Ganesha’ Sachindra Sharma; TV actor Gaurav Chopra and scriptwriter Rajiv Dhamija.
