A Tamil Nadu Superintendent of Police, who had sought a multi-agency probe into the IPL betting scandal, has alleged that the CB-CID was confining its investigation to betting and not probing allegations of match-fixing. Though the names of several Delhi-based suspects were revealed during investigation, they were not examined, he said.
G. Sampath Kumar, the then Superintendent of Police, ‘Q’ branch CID, said Kitty alias Utham Jain, a bookie, had revealed that Gurunath Meiyappan of the Chennai Super Kings had allegedly conveyed to city-based hotelier, Vikram Agarwal, that a leading player and another cricketer had agreed to fix the CSK vs Rajasthan Royals match last year.
Mr. Kumar said he had sought a probe by an NIA-led joint investigation team or some such agency. This was because the present investigation was not on the right track. More investigation was required by a special team.
To a question, he said he had spoken to a TV channel only about what he had stated in his affidavit to Justice Mudgal Committee and nothing beyond.
