A red corner notice has been issued against Nicole Tamang, the prime suspect in the murder of Akhil Bharatiya Gorkha League leader Madan Tamang, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) informed the Calcutta High Court here on Thursday.

Nicole Tamang, a supporter of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha, is believed to have led the attack on Madan Tamang in Darjeeling on May 21, 2010. He was arrested but managed to escape from the custody of the State's Criminal Investigation Department on August 22 and has remained absconding ever since.

In January this year, the Calcutta High Court had asked the CBI to take over the investigation.

Submitting a status report, the CBI said Nicole Tamang was alive and had been seen in Nepal. A red corner notice was issued on July 8.
