The (IIT), Delhi Alumni Association has passed a resolution against alleged government interference in IITs. News that Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi Director R.K. Shevgaonkar had resigned broke on December 28 when several former students of the institute congregated on the campus on Alumni Day.
More than 200 old students passed a resolution unanimously by voice vote.
Mr. Shevgaonkar’s resignation was allegedly due to government pressure.
While the BJP accused Mr. Shevgaonkar of evading accountability for his role in setting up an institute in Mauritius, the latter had clarified on Nov. 20 that the institute entailed no financial cost to India.
“It also finds explicit mention in the Memorandum of Understanding that all the cost to be incurred in relation to the cooperation envisaged by this MoU shall be borne solely by the government of Mauritius,” Mr. Shevgaonkar had written in his reply to Additional Secretary Amarjeet Sinha, after receiving a Demi Official letter seeking details on the International Institute of Technology Research Academy (IITRA) in Mauritius.
