The Delhi High Court on Tuesday refused to hear the bail plea of Cineyug Films Director Karim Morani, chargesheeted by the CBI in the 2G spectrum case, and asked him to approach the trial court first.

“The propriety demands that before approaching the High Court, the petitioner (Morani) should approach the CBI court for bail as I do not have the advantage over the charge sheet, which is available with the special court,” Justice Ajit Bhariohoke said while dismissing Mr. Morani’s plea.

Following the order, Mr. Morani’s counsel Mukul Rohatgi withdrew the bail plea.

Mr. Morani had moved the Delhi High Court on Monday for bail, apprehending that he too would be arrested like some of the other accused once he appeared before the special CBI court set up to try the 2G case.

Mr. Morani along with DMK MP Kanimozhi, Kalaignar TV Managing Director Sharad Kumar, Swan Telecom promoter Shahid Balwa’s cousin Asif Balwa and Kusegaon Fruits and Vegetables Pvt Ltd’s director Rajeev Agarwal were chargesheeted by the CBI on April 25.

Mr. Morani is accused of facilitating the transfer of Rs. 200 crore from Shahid Balwa-promoted DB Realty to Kalaignar TV in which Ms. Kanimozhi and Mr. Sharad Kumar have a stake of 20 per cent each.
