Collection of data on nutritional status and information on lifestyle disorders such as diabetes and hypertension will be part of this year’s Annual Health Surveys conducted in nine States with bad health indicators.
The one time Clinical, Anthropometric and Biochemical (CAB) survey will provide data on height, weight, blood pressure, pulse rate, haemoglobin, blood glucose levels and iodine content in salt used by the households.
The Annual Health surveys are done in Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh – known as Empowered Action Group States — to identify poorly performing areas (blocks) for focussed attention.
To be launched shortly, the CAB Survey will be undertaken in 12 selected Primary Sample Units of AHS in each of the 284 districts in these nine States.
It is proposed to collect data on nutritional status, and information on prevalence of lifestyle disorders including diabetes, and hypertension at the district level.
It will provide data on height, weight, blood pressure, pulse rate, haemoglobin, blood glucose levels and iodine content used by the people.
During the survey, blood samples will be collected for estimation of haemoglobin and fasting blood glucose levels.
The State governments have been asked to extend help to the field survey agencies for the smooth conduct of this exercise through the District Magistrates and Chief Medical Officers.
