The Madras High Court on Tuesday dismissed a Public Interest Litigation seeking to declare as non-est in law the Centre’s decision to confer Bharat Ratna on former cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and Prof. C.N.R. Rao.

The petitioner, advocate N. Kanakasabai, said that on November 16 the Union government announced the award for the two persons but their names were not published in the gazette, which was contra to a Presidential notification. Mr. Kanakasabai said he was only challenging the decision to confer the award without following the relevant rules.
