The Delhi High Court on Wednesday told JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar to move a sessions court for regular bail in the sedition case.

He is currently out on six-month interim bail granted by the High Court on March 2.

Mr. Kumar had approached the High Court for regular bail as his interim bail is scheduled to expire on September 1. His counsel told the court that he had not violated any condition of interim bail and had not made any alleged anti-national comment.

“The present application is dismissed with liberty to the petitioner to move the sessions court,” said Justice P.S. Teji.

Last week, the court dismissed two petitions filed by private individuals seeking cancellation of interim bail granted to Mr. Kumar on the ground that he had violated bail condition by making anti-national speeches in public.

The court held that the police was not supporting cancellation of interim bail and as such no stranger can interfere in the criminal matter.

Mr. Kumar was arrested on February 12 on sedition charges in connection with an event on the JNU campus on February 8 where anti-national slogans were allegedly raised.
