Gujarat, Himachal may have one-day poll: EC

The Election Commission (EC) is likely to go for a single phase Assembly election in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh and has already began the spadework for the elections which may be held in January next year .

Official sources said the Commission might not club the Assembly elections due in Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura with that of Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh, as it feels that the chances of the Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh election results influencing the voters in the three north-eastern States are low.
