Television personalities along with several other people held a rally here on Sunday, protesting against the release of Kannada actress Maria Susairaj and demanded justice for the murdered TV executive Neeraj Grover.

The rally was led by Grover’s friend and filmmaker Ashok Pandit. Actor Raza Murad, television actress Jaya Bhattacharya and actress-VJ Teejay Sidhu were among the several others who participated in the rally.

The protest started from Dheeraj Solitaire building in Malad where Grover was stabbed to death, and ended at Tulip Star Hotel in Juhu.

“Earlier in the day, police had picked 15 protesters, as they said the protesters did not have permission to hold the rally. They were released after Congress MP Sanjay Nirupam intervened in the matter. After talking to a senior police officer, we were granted permission to hold the protest rally,” Pandit said.

A candle light vigil will be held in the evening at Lokhandwala at 6 pm.

The 25—year—old TV executive was killed in the apartment of Maria Susairaj by her fiance and former navy officer Emlie Jerome. Grover’s body was hacked into several pieces and dumped in Manor forest in adjoining Thane on May 7, 2008.

The Mumbai sessions court had awarded Maria three—year imprisonment in the case, however, on Saturday she was released from a jail here as she has already spent the term behind the bars.
