Folk singer Shahir Sable passes away

He campaigned against alcohol abuse and illiteracy

Bard and Marathi folk legend Krishnarao Sable, popularly known as Shahir Sable, who brought Maharashtra’s folk singing and theatre traditions to the centre stage, passed away at his central Mumbai residence on Thursday evening. He was 93.

He made ballads such as “Garja Maharashtra Majha” and “Jai Jai Maharashtra Majha” popular.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and NCP State Chief Sunil Tatkare were among those who condoled his death.
