The West Bengal government today said security forces are continuing their operations against Maoists in Lalgarh area of West Bengal and incidents of firing are happening everyday.
State Home Secretary Ardhendu Sen, who met Union Home Ministry officials today, told reporters that the state government expects tripartite talk on the Gorkhaland issue would take place “as scheduled” on December 21.
Mr. Sen who discussed other issues with the officials here said there was no indication, as of now, for the hunger strike of Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM) activists to be taken back.
“Putting a resolution in the state Assembly for carving out Gorkhaland out of West Bengal does not arise at all as of now,” he said.
“In Lalgrah the situation remains to be the same. Joint operations by Central as well state police forces are continuing and incidents of firing are taking place everyday,” Mr. Sen said.
We are doing our best to deal with Maoists, he added.
Mr. Sen, talking about recent terror attack inputs for Kolkata and other places said there is no specific threat as of now and the advisory (from the Centre) was general in nature.
“We are taking appropriate steps for tightening security across Kolkata and West Bengal,” he said.
The security around the US consulate in Kolkata is already tight and it is a secured location, he added.
