A fire broke out at the State Bank of India, Kalna branch today, police said.
The bank is housed on three floors of a five-storeyed building in the area. The flames were first noticed on the second floor computer room, police said.
A fire engine rushed to the spot but could not douse the flames due to shortage of water. A municipality water tanker was requisitioned to enable the firemen to bring the fire under control, sources said.
Later, a fire engine was rushed from Katwa and the fire was brought under control after about six hours, sources said.
Two women workers who used to stay in the premises were rescued by the firemen, sources said.
The extent of damage was not immediately known.
