Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi on Thursday skipped the Union Cabinet meeting against the backdrop of his Trinamool Congress party’s unhappiness over the government’s decision to allow FDI in retail.
No reason was officially given for his absence from the meeting. Mr. Trivedi is the lone Trinamool representative in the Cabinet.
However, the development comes amidst the Trinamool’s reservations against the FDI in retail decision.
“It must be some personal reason as the party has not given any directive to skip the cabinet meet,” said a senior Trinamool leader.
Mr. Trivedi had opposed the FDI decision in the last Cabinet meeting.
Trinamool leader Sudeep Bandopadhayay was among the United Progressive Alliance party leaders who met the Prime Minister on Thursday.
