ED officials question Iqbal Singh

Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials on Monday questioned Puducherry Lieutenant Governor Iqbal Singh in connection with his recommendation for expeditious issuance of passport to Hasan Ali Khan, who has been arrested for tax evasion and money laundering.

Sources in the Raj Nivas here said a four-member ED team from Mumbai arrived at 1.15 p.m. and continued the questioning till 5 p.m.

A team from the ED's Chennai office visited the Raj Nivas on April 20 following a clearance from the Prime Minister's Office for questioning Mr. Singh. Mr. Singh had accepted that he recommended speedy issuance of passport to Hasan Ali Khan when he was a Rajya Sabha member in 1997.
