Echo in Lok Sabha, BJP walks out

The BJP on Wednesday attacked the government saying it had failed to control inflation and staged a walkout in the Lok Sabha protesting against the rising prices of essential commodities.

Leader of the Opposition Sushma Swaraj raised the issue soon after the House met for the day. She claimed that price rise was due to the “weak” policies of the UPA government and not because of any natural calamity.

Referring to the BJP's rally against price rise in the capital, she said lakhs of people from far-flung areas had come to Delhi to “shake up and wake up the government from its slumber.”

The government had been mired in scams and scandals and had no time to control skyrocketing prices, Ms. Swaraj said, leading the walkout by NDA Working Chairman L.K. Advani, Deputy Leader of the BJP in the Lok Sabha Gopinath Munde and other party members.

As BJP members shouted slogans against spiralling prices and asked the government to go if it could not check inflation, Speaker Meira Kumar asked them to refrain from sloganeering.
