Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Tariq Ahmed Karim on Wednesday underlined the need for restoration of all pre-1965 linkages by road, rail and rivers with India.
Delivering a talk on “India-Bangladesh Relations: Beyond Barriers,” organised by the Centre for Development and Peace Studies (CDPS) here, the envoy said Bangladesh was willing to reopen all its roads, railways and waterways to the northeast of India and which have remained closed since the 1965 India-Pakistan war.
Need time
Mr. Karim, however, said both the countries need time to rebuild the infrastructure, which have decayed because of non-use. Soon Chittagong and Mongla Ports would be opened to India, Bhutan and Nepal.
He also urged India to be generous and provide more concessions such as duty-free access so as to reduce the trade deficit of Bangladesh with India.
