Mumbai police raided a pub late on Friday night after complaints it was overcrowded and running beyond permissible time limits every weekend. However, more than 100 customers who were detained at the MRA Marg police station escaped.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 1, Ravindra Shiswe told The Hindu that a complaint has been registered against two persons for obstructing police officials performing their duty. “They entered the police station and started a heated argument, enabling the detained youngsters to escape,” Mr. Shiswe said.
Mr. Shiswe said the police initiated action against the pub-goers under Section 110 of the Bombay Police Act.
“The police fined 21 youngsters but before they could take action against the others, these two persons came to the station and created a scene,” he said.
“We have booked these two persons under sections 353, 332, 506(2) and 34 of the Indian Penal Code. If more evidence comes up, we may book some more,” Mr. Shiswe said, adding that the pub owners co-operated with the police.
