The Crime Branch of Delhi Police continued the interrogation of AIADMK (Amma) deputy general secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran at his residence in Adyar here till Thursday night.

“One of the Ministers is likely to be questioned,” an intelligence official said.

According to sources, the police are questioning Dhinakaran, his wife Anuradha and a few other family members. The interrogation with Dhinakaran and his family members began at 4.30 p.m. Police conducted searches at his home to unearth more evidence in the case against him for attempting to bribe Election Commission officials to get a favourable order on the ‘Two Leaves’ symbol for his faction.

After four days of inquiry in the case, the Delhi Police arrested Dhinakaran and his aide Mallikarjuna on Tuesday night and obtained order from a court for custodial interrogation.

Amid tight security, a team of police officials brought him in a passenger flight to Chennai on Thursday afternoon. A few Delhi journalists who followed him in the same flight said he was calm. Nanjil Sampth, party propaganda secretary, Karnataka State unit organiser Pugalenthi came to the airport to see him. However, only a handful of supporters gathered at the airport.

With escort of Chennai City Police, Dhinakaran and Mallikarjuna were taken to a guest house at Rajaji Bhavan in Besant Nagar, where many of the Central government offices are located.

Here, the Delhi police officials interrogated the duo for nearly two and half hours.

Advocate ‘Tada’ Chandrasekar, along with another advocate, demanded that the investigating officers allow them to meet Dhinakaran.

As the police refused, a scuffle ensued between the advocates, a few supporters of Dhinakaran and the City police personnel who were guarding the complex. In the melee, the police whisked away Dhinakaran in a vehicle.

Later, he was taken to his residence at Adyar where the interrogation continued late into the night. Dhinakaran’s supporter Nanjil Sampath told reporters standing outside the house that some vested interests were attempting to oust Dhinakaran from politics. Dhinakaran has the support of 87 MLAs in his side, he claimed.

According to sources, the Delhi Police are trying to find out who are the others persons who facilitated the meeting with Sukesh Chandrasekar., the conman who was nabbed first, Sukesh had allegedly assured Dhinakaran to get a favourable order on the symbol for ₹50 crore.

Initially, an advance of ₹10 crore was routed through Malikarjuna and hawala operator Shah Faisal in Delhi to Sukesh. While only ₹1.3crore was seized from him, the police are trying to trace out the persons who received the rest of the money.

A few politicians, including a Minister in the ruling AIADMK group, are likely to be investigated, sources said, adding that Dhinakaran and Mallikarjuna would be taken to Kochi and Bengaluru for further interrogation.
