Delhi govt. cancels licence of Shalimar Bagh Max Hospital for wrongly pronouncing newborn dead

The  Delhi  government on Friday cancelled the licence of Max Hospital in Shalimar Bagh with immediate effect. The decision comes eight days after one of the premature twins declared dead by the hospital was found alive while being taken for the last rites. The infant, however, died on Wednesday. The patients already admitted in the hospital won't be affected by the decision, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain said at a press conference.

Day ahead of voting in Gujarat, BJP releases manifesto

A day before the first phase of polling in Gujarat, the ruling BJP on Friday released its  election  manifesto with a slew of promises for various sections of society, which included a resolve to “double” farmers’ income. Releasing the manifesto, BJP’s election in-charge for  Gujarat,  Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, said it was prepared keeping in mind the party’s resolution to maintain and improve on the 10% growth clocked by the State under the party’s rule.

PAN-Aadhaar linking deadline extended to March 31

With less than a month to go for the deadline to link Aadhaar with PAN, the government on Friday extended the deadline to March 31, 2018. “In view of the difficulties faced by some of the taxpayers in the process, the date for linking of Aadhaar with PAN was initially extended till August 31, 2017 which was further extended up to December 31, 2017,” the Income Tax Department said in a statement.

Disgruntled Maharashtra MP Nana Patole quits BJP, Lok Sabha

Maharashtra  BJP MP Nana Patole on Friday said he has resigned from the party and the Lok Sabha. In August, Mr. Patole criticised the BJP-led Maharashtra government for the way it was implementing the farm loan waiver scheme. He had also claimed that it was insensitive to farmers’ problems.

Can't share Jayalalithaa's thumb prints due to statutory bar, UIDAI tells HC

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) on Friday told the Madras High Court that it cannot share with the thumb print obtained from former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, for issuance of Aadhaar, since there was a statutory bar on sharing such information. A jailor from Parappana Agrahara prison, however, submitted a soft copy of the thumb impressions.

Chennai minor rape, murder accused Daswant nabbed again in Mumbai after giving police the slip

Daswant (23) of Chennai, who escaped on Thursday after his arrest in  Mumbai  by a Chennai police team on Wednesday, has been arrested again. Daswant escaped to Mumbai with his mother's gold jewellery after allegedly killing her recently while on bail after his arrest in the case of the rape and  murder  of a seven-year-old girl, who was his neighbour in February last in Mugalivakkam. After the crime, he kept the girl’s body in his house for a day and later set it on fire under a bridge.

Pakistan allows Jadhav's wife, mother to meet him on Dec. 25

Pakistan  on Friday said that it will allow the wife and mother of alleged Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav a meeting later this month on humanitarian grounds. Islamabad has also allowed the presence of an Indian embassy official as requested by New Delhi. Foreign Office spokesman Dr. Faisal told a media briefing that On November 10, Pakistan had offered to arrange for a meeting of Jadhav with his wife on humanitarian grounds.

Britain and European Commission clinch deal to move Brexit talks forward

Britain and the  European Union  struck a deal on Friday to move on to talk about trade and a transition period after they agreed the outline of their divorce, easing the pressure on Prime Minister Theresa May. The European Commission said enough progress had been made after the two sides worked through the night to end an impasse over the status of the Irish border that had scuppered an earlier attempt to clinch a deal on Monday.
