With the “rightwing offensive” and “full-scale attempt by Hindutva forces to advance their communal agenda” setting the stage for “growing authoritarianism,” the Communist Party of India (Marxist) is open to working with the Congress in fighting this “attack on democracy.”
“The party will have no understanding or electoral alliance with the Congress,” the draft political resolution for the upcoming 21st Congress underscores.
Briefing mediapersons on the salient features of the resolution, general secretary Prakash Karat ruled out electoral understanding in West Bengal also.
“On communalism and other issues, we are willing to work with the others, including the Congress, in a broad alliance. But this does not mean an electoral understanding,” Mr. Karat said.
