CPI not to join secular alliance in Bihar

March 15, 2015 01:25 am | Updated 01:35 am IST - Patna:

Ahead of the Assembly elections later this year, the grand secular alliance in Bihar suffered a jolt on Saturday when the Communist Party of India called for Left unity and declared that it would not be part of the group. During the recent trust vote in the Assembly, the lone CPI MLA supported the Nitish Kumar government.

“The CPI has approved a political resolution for Left unity in the State during the Assembly polls to give a tough fight to the JD(U)-RJD-Congress combine,” said the party’s national working committee member and State leader U.N. Mishra at its three-day State conference in Darbhanga. “We’ll strive to contest the Assembly election with Left unity based on a common agenda for the benefit of the poor,” Mr. Mishra said.
