Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday stayed the trial court proceedings in the alleged lynching and stabbing of 17-year-old Junaid Khan in June this year on a Mathura-bound train.

The Division Bench of Justice Mahesh Grover and Raj Shekhar Attri issued notice of motion to the Central Bureau of Investigation and Haryana government on the petition filed by Mr. Jalaluddin, Junaid's father, seeking a CBI investigation into the case.

Advocate Arshdeep Singh Cheema, the counsel for Mr. Jalaluddin, said that the High Court had stayed the trial proceedings of the Faridabad court.

The next date of hearing was fixed for January 11, he added.

The High Court’s single Bench had on November 27 dismissed the petition filed by Mr. Jalaluddin seeking a CBI inquiry into the lynching. Mr. Jalaluddin challenged the judgment by submitting an appeal in the case.
