The special court hearing the cash-for-votes case on Tuesday directed Tihar Central Jail authorities to furnish “a complete report” by Wednesday noon on the medical condition of Amar Singh that necessitated his shifting to the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences on Monday evening.

Special Judge Sangita Dhingra Sehgal also ordered the AIIMS Director to send a report on the medical condition of Mr. Singh from the time of his admission by noon on Wednesday. The hearing on his interim bail plea has been posted for further arguments on Thursday.

The judge also directed the jail authorities to place on record the urine culture and sensitivity report. In the absence of intimation from the Tihar jail to the court on the shifting of the accused to the AIIMS, Mr. Singh's counsel Hariharan drew Ms. Sehgal's attention to media reports, which indicated that his creatinine levels were high.

According to earlier reports submitted by jail authorities, Mr. Singh has already been examined by a nephrologist, a gastroenterologist, a neurologist, a psychiatrist, and the jail's senior resident doctor. Ms. Sehgal, in her order on Tuesday, also observed that according to the earlier reports the “medical condition of the accused/applicant is stable and all parameters are nearly normal as reported by specialists and indicated by the pathological tests.”

The judge also recorded in her order that at the Tihar jail, Mr. Singh was lodged in a spacious independent cell and that “two other prisoners are attending on him should any medical emergency arise.”
