The Congress MLA from the Bahadurganj constituency in Kishanganj of Bihar, Mohammad Tausif Alam, has set standards for lavishness when he tied the knot recently.
The wedding, held last Saturday in Kishanganj district, was attended by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Mr. Alam took his fiancee from her village Tatha Matha to his village Gagaon in a private chopper. The celebrations got on the wrong side of law when some of Mr. Alam’s supporters fired in the air.
An FIR has been registered against unknown persons after a video clipping established that there was celebratory firing. “Even if the weapons are licensed, they are used for defence, not for fun,” Superintendent of Police Manoj Kumar told The Hindu .
According to him, a case was registered against unknown persons since the faces of the persons firing were not clear in the video. The police have booked them under Sections 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide), 147, 148, 149 for rioting and damaging property. The police would be probing if Mr. Alam had consented to the firing.
‘Permission taken’
As for the chopper, Mr. Kumar said, “It was a private chopper and due permission was taken from the Air Traffic Control.”
Mr. Alam could not be reached for comment. He, however, told reporters earlier that the chopper had been hired by his friend. He also boasted to local channels that around one lakh guests attended the wedding.
Asked about the helicopter, Congress Legislature Party leader Sadanand Singh told The Hindu that he was not aware of it as he had left the wedding much earlier.
Bihar Congress chief Ashok Choudhary told The Hindu : “People in public life should act and behave with simplicity.”
