Congress leader meets SA President

June 19, 2018 09:29 pm | Updated 09:29 pm IST - NEW DELHI

Senior Congress leader Anand Sharma called on South African President Cyril Ramaphosa in Pretoria to deepen the relationship between the Congress party and African National Congress.

The Congress leader’s visit to South Africa comes ahead of the formal BRICS summit – a multi-lateral between Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa – to be held next week at Johannesburg.

Conveying the greetings of Congress president Rahul Gandhi to the African National Congress, Mr. Sharma discussed a wide range of issues including terrorism, employment and opportunities of investment. “President Ramaphosa expressed concern over growing protectionism and the new trade barriers affecting the movement of goods and services and stressed the need to strengthen multilateral organisations,” said a statement from Mr. Sharma.
