“Only we know whether the doors [of the Congress] will be opened [to the All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam] or not,” Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi said in the Assembly on Friday.

His intervention came during a debate in which AIADMK deputy leader O. Panneerselvam and Leader of the House and Finance Minister, K. Anbazhagan, spoke on AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa's offer of support to the Congress.

Later, in a chat with a few television channels, when asked about Ms. Jayalalithaa's offer, Mr. Karunanidhi said: “They [Congress] have already responded that they have shut their doors on Ms. Jayalalithaa.”

In the Assembly, when Mr. Panneerselvam tried to raise an issue, Mr. Anbazhagan said the AIADMK was desperate as its efforts to move close to the Congress were not reciprocated. “You knocked on the door of the Congress at Delhi. But it did not open.” Mr. Panneerselvam responded that the closed doors would soon open. It was at this juncture that the Chief Minister made his remarks.
