The Congress on Wednesday blamed the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Modi government for the mischief involving derogatory changes to Wikipedia pages on Jawaharlal Nehru and his forefathers.

Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi alleged the changes were made from a government IP address and demanded a police case be filed and an investigation launched into the matter. He described the act as “reprehensible, cheap and gutter-level tactics.” He alleged that the BJP was behind the mischief because it wanted to polarise the electorate “ahead of the Bihar elections.”

The Congress claimed that a software that tracked anonymous Wikipedia edits indicated that the mischievous changes were made to the entries on June 26. “Prime Minister Modi and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad should tell us what action they are taking on the editing on Wikipedia pages by a government agency,” he said.
