In an operation coordinated by the Coast Guard's Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC), two Indian crew members of a fishing boat, stranded some 35 nautical miles off Kerala coast, were rescued.
The crew with fishing boat Najiya had left Androth, Lakshadweep Island, early morning on July 23 and was missing since then.
Coast Guard Ship Lakshmibai undertook the life saving mission in adverse weather conditions. The ship sailed from Kochi late night on July 26 and rescued the boat and its crew an hour past midnight on July 26.
Ever since the fishing vessel was reported missing, the Coast Guard carried out extensive search in the area surrounding Androth Island. In all, five aircraft sorties were undertaken.
The boat as well as its crew is likely to reach Beypore on July 27 morning.
