The Central Bureau of Investigation has registered yet another case in the coal block allocation scam against a Nagpur- based company, along with known public servants, on charges of extracting coal beyond permissible limits.
The case has been registered against Jayaswal Neco Industries under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code for alleged criminal conspiracy and criminal breach of trust and the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Based on preliminary findings, searches were also conducted at three places - Raipur and Raigarh in Chhattisgarh and one in Nagpur.
“It is alleged that the firm indulged in misappropriation through excess mining of coal beyond the approved quantum from Gare Palma IV coal block in Raigarh and consumed the coal irregularly in its captive power plant.
The agency has so far registered 20 cases in connection with the alleged irregularities in the allocation of coal blocks in 1993-2004 and 2006-2009.
It had earlier filed closure reports in four of the cases citing insufficient evidence. The Supreme Court later instructed the Central Vigilance Commission to review several cases.
