The West Bengal government announced its decision to order two separate investigations by its Criminal Investigation Department (CID) into Monday's incident involving Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, when a lorry hit a car in the Union Railway Minister's convoy in Kolaghat, Purbo Medinipur, as she was returning after addressing a rally at Lalgarh.
State Home Secretary Samar Ghosh told journalists at the Secretariat that the CID has been asked to probe the incident.
Two separate cases, including one on a complaint by Trinamool MP Suvendu Adhikari, have been registered.
Unscheduled stop
Preliminary investigations suggested that the convoy had made an unscheduled stop on its way back from Lalgarh, when the lorry carrying plastic granules from a factory in the industrial township of Haldia in Purba Medinipur hit the corner of a convoy car from the side.
