In a large-scale top level bureaucratic reshuffle, the Central government on Friday named important secretaries for commerce, petroleum and natural gas, information and broadcasting, education and steel. The reshuffle involves appointments of over two dozen top bureaucrats in the Centre.
As per the orders issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) after the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) cleared the names, Anup Wadhwan has been appointed as new Secretary, Commerce, and will take over from Rita Teotia after her superannuation in July this year. Till then, Mr. Wadhwan will serve as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Ministry of Commerce.
Similarly, former Chief Secretary of Delhi, M.M. Kutty will take over as new Secretary, Petroleum and Natural Gas after K.D. Tripathi retires in June and till then, Mr. Kutty will be OSD in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
Both Wadhwan and Kutty are 1985 batch IAS officers belonging to Uttarakhand and Union Territory (UT) cadres respectively.
Another IAS of 1985 batch and Jharkhand cadre Amit Khare has been named as new Secretary, Information and Broadcasting (I&B) in place of N.K. Sinha, who is set to superannuate this month end.
Rina Ray, Special Secretary School Education, has been named new Secretary, School Education and Literacy in place of Anil Swaroop, who is retiring on June 30, 2018.
A 1983 batch IAS from Telengana cadre Binoy Kumar has been appointed as OSD in the Ministry of Steel and will take over as Secretary, Steel from September 1 after retirement of incumbent Aruna Sharma on August 31.
Similarly, another Telengana cadre officer Pushpa Subramanyam has been appointed as OSD in the Ministry of Food Processing to take over as Secretary there from September 1. She is 1985 batch IAS and is currently Special Secretary, Textiles.
Gujarat cadre IAS Atanu Chakraborty, currently Director General Hydrocarbons (DGH), was appointed as Secretary, Disinvestment and Public Asset Management while his batch mate from the same cadre G.C. Murmu has been elevated from Additional Secretary to Special Secretary, Department of Revenue, in the Ministry of Finance. Both are 1985 batch IAS.
Moreover, Heera Lal Samaria was named Secretary, Labour and Employment, Deepak Khandekar as Secretary, Tribal Affairs, Nilam Sawhney as Secretary, Social Justice and Empowerment.
Additionally, over half a dozen officers were given secretary rank and appointed in the same posts by upgrading those posts.
