CBI studying CAG report

August 06, 2011 01:12 am | Updated November 17, 2021 12:36 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday said that it was studying the report of the Comptroller and Auditor- General of India (CAG) on alleged irregularities in Commonwealth Games projects tabled in Parliament.

Well placed CBI sources said the agency would study the report and find out if it pointed towards any “wrong doing or conspiracy” to accrue wrongful gains and loss to public exchequer.

The sources said the CBI would take “appropriate action,” including registration of preliminary enquiry, after going through the CAG report. The CBI stand is likely to spell more trouble to Delhi government, headed by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit as it tries to grapple with the pressure mounted by the Opposition parties who are demanding that she quit after the indictment by the CAG.

The CBI has already registered a number of cases in the CWG scam after the games got over in October last year. Organising Committee chief Suresh Kalmadi who is also a Congress MP from Pune, and a number of high ranking officials are lodged in Tihar jail here after the CBI swung into action.
