Accusing the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) of harassing his son Karti in the Aircel-Maxis deal case, former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram on Friday said the agency should question him instead.

“In Aircel-Maxis, FIPB recommended and I approved minutes. CBI should question me and not harass Karti Chidambaram…Sad, CBI spreading misinformation. In Aircel-Maxis, FIPB officials have recorded statements before CBI that approval given was valid,” the former Finance Minister tweeted.

The CBI had summoned Mr. Karti for questioning on Thursday, but he did not turn up, saying the agency had no jurisdiction and that court proceedings in the case had been terminated. He also asked the agency to withdraw the summons, stating that he had nothing more to add to the statement he had given to the CBI on November 19, 2014.

Countering his assertions, the agency said the probe was under way and that the FIR registered in the Aircel-Maxis deal was also alive.
