Based on the results of a Preliminary Enquiry (PE), the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered cases against three Army officers, for allegedly issuing fake experience certificates to candidates who appeared in the Group C and erstwhile Group D categories in the 2011-12 recruitments at the Indian Military Academy (IMA).
The cases were registered on January 3 this year based on the results of the PE that went on for almost six months.
Cases have been registered against Lt. Col. Akhilesh Mishra who was the Military Transport Officer (MTO) at the IMA during the recruitments that took place in 2011-12, Lt. Col. Jagdish Bishnoi, the then Catering Officer at the IMA, and Lt Col. Ambarish Tewari, the then Administrative Officer at the Dehradun-based Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC).
Cases have also been registered against the Members of the Selection Boards for the Group C and erstwhile Group D category recruitments and some candidates.
Prashant Tripathi, Public Relations Officer (PRO), IMA, said, “The CBI has not yet submitted the report to the IMA officials. Further details of the issue will only be known once the report is received.”
The cases have been registered under Sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) including Section 120B (criminal conspiracy), Section 420 (cheating and dishonestly), and Sections 467, 468, 471 (forgery).
In the PE it was found that some candidates who were recruited did not fulfil the minimum eligibility criteria for their respective categories.
Of the 286 candidates who were recruited and were under a two-year probationary period, 36 have been dismissed from the Indian Military Academy (IMA) on the basis of the usage of forged certificates during recruitment, sources told The Hindu.
Authentication of documents of around 40 candidates is yet to be received.
Sources said that a sample of 50 answer sheets was chosen out of which more than one-third were found fake. The process of checking the remaining answer sheets is going on.
