AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa said on Sunday that the CBI ought to have raided the office of Kalaignar TV and secured all records before making public its suspicions about the channel's possible links to the 2G spectrum scam.
In a statement here, she said the CBI had given Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi enough time to “work out escape strategies.”
(While seeking extension of the remand for the accused in the trial court in Delhi, the CBI had said it was investigating a transfer of more than Rs. 200 crore by a Mumbai company to Kalaignar TV. A few days later, it searched the office of the channel located in the same compound as the DMK headquarters).
Ms. Jayalalithaa alleged that a high-level meeting was held at the DMK headquarters prior to the CBI search, and critical documents pertaining to the company were burnt. Documents such as bills, cash vouchers and transaction challans were shredded. She said the CBI raided the offices of Kalaignar TV as if on invitation, since the search followed a statement from its management that its accounts were open to scrutiny by the CBI and the Income Tax Department.
