With the former Telecom Minister, A. Raja, and DB Realty managing director and promoter of Swan Telecom Ltd. Shahid Balwa in its custody, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) continued on Friday to confront both of them with documents relating to the 2G spectrum scam.
Sources in the CBI said the two were made to face each other and questions were posed by the officials relating to the grant of licence and undue favours extended to the company during 2008. The agency is also focussing on tracing the money trail that allegedly led from Swan Telecom to close relatives and acquaintances of Mr. Raja.
The sources said the agency was hopeful of getting some fresh leads.
Dubai visits
CBI sleuths are also looking at visits made by Mr. Balwa in his private aircraft to Dubai, reportedly to secure finances for his company from dubious sources. The agency is likely to call for flight records from the Directorate-General of Civil Aviation pertaining to the movement of Mr. Balwa's aircraft and seek details of sources of funding for his company. The next stage of the probe could focus on some other telecom companies which misrepresented facts in order to get Unified Access Service licences.
