An eighteen member delegation led by BSF chief Raman Srivastava on Tuesday crossed over the border to hold dialogue with his Pakistan counterpart at Lahore.
This is first time that a BSF chief has crossed over to Pakistan to hold dialogue on issues such as cross-border smuggling, infiltration and unprovoked firing.
“Meeting with the officers of Pakistani Border Security Force and other related officials would continue from October 26 to 30{+t}{+h},” Director General of BSF Raman Srivastava said before the visit.
“During the meeting, various key issues including unprovoked firing, infiltration, smuggling of narcotics, fake Indian currency, arms and ammunition, besides, other problems faced by both the forces during joint patrolling would be discussed,” Mr. Srivastava added.
This meeting with Pakistan officials would create better relationships between the two border guarding forces which would pave way for dialogue in future to discuss various key issues.
Talking about the rocket attacks by Pakistan near the Attari border, the BSF chief said that Pakistan was well aware of the attacks and in this regard investigation was being carried out by Pakistan’s CID to bring out the truth as to who is responsible.
Pakistan had fired five rockets into Indian territory which fell on the border villages during the intervening night of January 8 and 9 this year.
In 2009, the first rocket attack from Pakistan side took place on July 5, when three rockets were fired and second time on September 11.
Refusing to comment on border disputes with China, Mr. Srivastava said only two international borders of Pakistan and Bangladesh is under the BSF.
The delegation members of BSF include DG Raman Srivastava, Special DG West Parmpal Singh Sidhu, IG Himmat Singh and IG Krishan lal Meena.
