BJP National President Amit Shah said the party’s focus was on becoming stronger in the south and east, particularly in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Orissa, West Bengal and Assam.

As the political climate was most favourable to it, BJP should try to expand across the country and get closer to the people. It has to ensure that the Central Government’s development and welfare schemes reached the targeted sections.

A credible alterative

Addressing a party meeting here on Friday, Mr. Shah said the party was enjoying the tremendous success which has come in over six decades and having staged a phenomenal comeback in the 2014 elections, it should now focus on endearing itself to the masses so as to remain a credible alterative to other parties for a long time to come.

People reposed confidence in the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. While concentrating on his development agenda, the party’s rank and file should ensure that its membership target is not missed.

Union Minister for Urban Development M. Venkaiah Naidu said the Opposition parties have the liberty to question the government and discuss and cast negatives votes in Parliament on various issues but they could not obstruct the legislative business.

The country has emerged out of the Soviet model socialism and was poised to grow into a force to reckon with in the global arena. No effort should be spared to achieve the goals, Mr. Naidu exhorted the participants.

Commotion

I.V Palace, the venue of the meeting, was packed with hundreds of party workers swarming the hall. There was commotion for some time as enthusiastic workers vied with one another to felicitate Mr. Shah.

The dignitaries were pushed by the surging crowd but order was restored by the policemen.
