Conceding defeat in Maharashtra, Haryana and Arunachal Pradesh Assembly polls, BJP on Thursday said it would have to analyse its weaknesses.

BJP, which was seeking to wrest power in all the three States, said it was “disappointed” but “not discouraged” by the election results.

“We will have to think about our weaknesses... We will have to carry out an honest analysis. We need to address these issues,” party spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad told a press conference after the poll results.

“I feel that most important is that we need to speak in one voice,” he said, hinting that discord within the party could have been one of the major factors for its poor performance that began with Lok Sabha polls and continued in the three Assembly elections.

At the same time, he sought to put up a brave face, saying victory and defeat were part of elections.

With regard to Maharashtra, he said the prospects of Shiv Sena-BJP combine were spoilt by Maharashtra Maharashtra Navnirman Sena of Raj Thackeray.

On Haryana, he said BJP had been contesting elections in alliance with INLD but this time the local unit of BJP disfavoured such a tie-up.

Commenting on Arunachal, Prasad said BJP had suffered as a number of its leaders, including MP Kiren Rijiju, had left the party.
