BJP slams opponents of Modi's fast

September 17, 2011 11:56 pm | Updated November 17, 2021 12:44 am IST - CHENNAI:

National spokesperson of the Bharatiya Janata Party Nirmala Seetharaman has slammed the opponents of the fast undertaken by Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi saying that their opposition revealed their frustration.

“They term the fast a gimmick because they are unable to set foot [politically] in Gujarat and this frustration is showing,” she told reporters here on Saturday.

She also lambasted the Centre's decision to hike the price of petrol as it would have a cascading effect and the prices of various items would go up further.

To a question on the 2G scam, she said the former Telecom Minister and prime accused in the scandal, A. Raja, had been claiming that he had taken decisions on the spectrum allocation only after consulting the former Finance Minister and current Home Minister, P. Chidambaram. Mr. Chidambaram must explain what advice he had tendered to him before allocating the spectrum, she said.

Responding to a query on the party's prime ministerial candidate in the next Lok Sabha polls, she said: ‘This could be announced only when the elections are near.”
