Reacting to the report in The Hindu on the land deals of Robert Vadra, son-in-law of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, the Bharatiya Janata Party has demanded a probe into charges of ‘falsification’ of documents.
BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said Haryana IAS officer Ashok Khemka, who had investigated the land deals, charged Mr. Vadra with falsifying documents for 3.53 acres of land in Gurgaon and that he had “pocketed” a large premium on a commercial colony licence.
Whatever facts had come into the public domain were a serious issue, Mr. Javadekar said. “The Congress owes an explanation. This is not a private matter. When there are charges of falsification, it needs to be properly investigated.”
‘Hooda must quit’
Chandigarh Special Correspondent writes:
The Indian National Lok Dal(INLD) demanded that a sitting judge of the Supreme Court or the Punjab and Haryana High Court conduct a special inquiry into the alleged irregularities and illegalities that Mr. Khemka exposed in the land deals Mr. Vadra struck with DLF in Gurgaon.
Talking to reporters, INLD leader and Ellanabad MLA Abhay Singh Chautala demanded that Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda resign immediately in the light of Mr. Khemka’s recent revelations.
Mr. Chautala said the INLD had made repeated attempts to raise the issue in the last session of the Assembly. The party had submitted at least three adjournment motions seeking a discussion on the transfer of land by the Haryana government to the Rajiv Gandhi Trust at Ulahawas village — Ms. Sonia Gandhi and her daughter Priyanka Vadra are trustees — as well as the Vadra-DLF deal. Mr. Chautala said the Speaker not only rejected the motions but threw the INLD members out of the house. The party would again raise the issue in the Assembly meeting from September 6.
