BJP offer upsets Advani supporters

May 16, 2014 02:06 am | Updated November 17, 2021 04:09 am IST - NEW DELHI:

A section in the BJP is not happy with the suggestion that if the party comes to power, veteran leader L.K. Advani should be made Lok Sabha Speaker.

This is because in the order of precedence, a Deputy Prime Minister is senior to the Speaker and Mr. Advani was Deputy PM when the NDA was in power. He is not only the working chairperson of the NDA, but has held several high profile positions in the party as well as in the government.

Sources said the party had expected the patriarch to be named NDA Chairperson after the election results, but reports that the RSS is keen to appoint Narendra Modi to the position has upset supporters of the leader.
