A day before the NDA government is set to release a commemorative stamp on Mahant Avaidyanath of the Gorakhnath Math, the BJP MP from Gorakhpur, Mahant Adityanath (formerly Yogi Adityanath) ran a poll on his website on whether or not the Modi government should come out with a policy to control the population of Muslims in the country.
The Sangh Parivar has taken a serious view of the fact that the total population of Hindus in India has dipped below 80 per cent. At the time of writing, 95 per cent of those polled (total number not disclosed) voted “yes,” while 4 per cent polled “no.”
Mahant Avaidyanath, guru and adoptive father of Mahant Adityanath, had been an active member of the Ram Janmabhoomi movement. His successor has been a four-time Member of Parliament from Gorakhpur, and is known to toe a hard Hindutva line. “We will run this poll for some more time and ensure that the genuine opinion of people is conveyed to the Prime Minister,” he told The Hindu .
“Controlling population is very important, and the government should come out with a comprehensive population policy to address this issue,” he said.
