Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) chief Ram Vilas Paswan on Saturday said there would be mid-term polls in Bihar soon, as the Nitish Kumar-led Grand Alliance government in the State “will not last over one or two years.”

Following the NDA and his party LJP’s crushing defeat in the recent Assembly election, Mr. Paswan alleged that the Grand Alliance played the caste card, which, however, would not work for them in the long run. Addressing the media here, the LJP chief said the present dispensation would fall due to its “inner contradictions.”

“Nitish Kumar is the Chief Minister but actual power is in the hands of RJD chief Lalu Prasad and both would confront each other on several issues after some time.”

Coinciding with the party’s 16th foundation day anniversary, Mr. Paswan also held a meeting at its headquarters to review the poll debacle.

Out of 243 seats, the LJP contested in 42 but won just the two seats of Govindganj and Lalganj. Mr. Paswan’s younger brother Pashupati Kumar Paras, his two sons-in-law, nephew and another close relative also lost.
