Former official Harihar Nath Jha held in Bihar exam scam

Former Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) Secretary Harihar Nath Jha was arrested on Monday in connection with the Intermediate toppers scam.

The Special Investigation Team arrested Mr. Jha on the basis of evidence of his “involvement” in the scam, Patna Senior Superintendent of Police Manu Maharaj said.

20 held so far With Mr. Jha’s arrest, the number of those behind bars in the scam has gone up to 20, Mr. Maharaj said.

The scam rocked Bihar last month after Ruby Rai, who was earlier declared topper in arts, failed to reply to basic questions about her subjects and described political science as ‘prodigal science’ and called it the science of ‘cooking.’

Among those arrested in connection with the scam are ex-BSEB chairman Lalkeshwar Singh and his wife Usha Singh, a former JD(U) MLA, Vishun Roy college principal Bachcha Rai and Humanities stream topper Ruby Rai.
