Bhopal GoM finalises agenda for next meeting

June 25, 2010 02:38 am | Updated November 09, 2016 06:55 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

Dow Chemical's collaboration with Reliance, a memorial for the victims, and legal measures to prevent a repeat of disasters like the Bhopal gas leak are among the issues that will be discussed by the Group of Ministers at its next meeting.

In its report accepted by the Union Cabinet on Thursday, the GoM listed residual issues, which will be addressed after the concerned Ministries prepare notes. This includes the Reliance-Dow collaboration for UNIPOL and four pesticides registered by the Agriculture Ministry.

On the legal side, there will be discussion on the “avoidance of future disasters and making legal provisions therefor,” the need to consolidate and codify the Law of Torts, and legal provisions for civil liability and insurance in the case of man-made disasters, as well as provision for class-action suits.

A memorial for the victims is also on the agenda of the next meeting.
