Coming out in support of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat, the Shiv Sena on Wednesday said he has performed ‘national service’ by speaking the ‘bitter truth.’
“The Muslim rulers used the sword to convert Hindus, while the Christian missionaries used money and sweet [talk] to convert the poor. If one is converting people on the pretext of serving them, then it is an insult to the word, ‘service’,” said an editorial in party mouthpiece Saamna on Wednesday.
“We welcome what Mohan Bhagwat has said about Mother Teresa and his statements will surely promote ghar vapsi,” said the editorial.
Admitting that the party respects the work done by Mother Teresa, the editorial said she has worked like a saint. “However, there are plenty of people in the country who have worked like her. But they never used religion or converted anyone,” it said. According to it, if secularism is promoted in politics, it should be done in the field of social service too.
Mr. Bhagwat had come under fire from several quarters after his controversial statement that conversion to Christianity was the main objective behind Mother Teresa’s social work.
