Bhagwat echoes VHP’s call for Ram temple

February 08, 2013 01:53 am | Updated November 16, 2021 10:30 pm IST - Kumbh Nagri (Allahabad):

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Thursday echoed the Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s call for the construction of Ram temple at Ayodhya, saying building it was like establishing a “national identity.”

“It is like a movement to establish the identity of the country and we have to establish it,” Mr. Bhagwat told reporters at the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela here. He attended the Dharm Sansad of the VHP being held at the mela.

In its central committee meeting at the mela on Wednesday, the VHP passed a resolution calling for the construction of a Ram mandir at Ayodhya, and asked the government to act in this regard. Failure to do so would compel the “Hindu Samaj” to launch a massive agitation, the VHP said in a statement.

The Parishad has demanded that a bill be passed in the monsoon session of Parliament so that the Ram janmabhoomi land could be handed over to the Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas to build the temple.
